Everyone else is doing it

What have you been up to? Major life changes? Same old same old?
I'm not sure if the start of a new school year constiutes a major life change, but it definitely requires recalibration. I am dealing with my largest student load ever, still struggling to know everyone's name, and panicked about how I will grade all the things I assign.

What fandom are you in/do you spend most of your time in?
Uh, Veronica Mars? Much like Veronica and Logan, I think I've moved on with my life, only to discover the spark of attraction is still there. I am still involved in MCU though, and I'm eagerly awaiting new seasons of Daredevil and The 100.

Where do you hang out online?
Here. I'm old school. And Pinterest, but it's under my real name, so I don't advertise that here.

What are you reading?
Pimp by Iceberg Slim. The school basketball coach (whose father was an actual underworld pimp) recommended it as a window into what some of my students might be facing in their lives, but it's pretty hard reading. The narrator beats a lot of women with zero remorse.

What are you watching?
Uh, Rehab Addict? It's about a lady who buys condemned Victorian houses and restores them with period detail. And Parts Unknown, which is Anthony Bourdain's new(ish) travel show on CNN. I am not watching anything fannish at all, though I suspect that will change when the fall TV season starts.

What are you making?
I've been in a bit of a creative drought since school started. I started an MCU story for one of alphaflyer's prompts, about the possibility that Clint's family was not as well-hidden as Clint and Laura might have hoped for. I like what I've written so far, but it's dark, so I'm pecking away at it little by little.

What are you squeeing about today?
Yuletide! I'm not signing up this year (in fact, I cannot sign up because I chose not to get myself unbanned after I defaulted twice in a row). That frees me up to bookmark all my friends' letters and write treats rather than angsting over some assignment that is ludicrously inappropriate for my writing skills.

If you could rope old fandom friends into a new fandom, it would be...
Veronica Mars! Then I could stop wandering around alone in the desolate wilderness of my weird retro fannish obsession. Or Daredevil! Daredevil is morally ambigiuous with complicated characters and women who have neat story lines. Come play!

I should really watch/read/dive into _______ and then come talk to you about it!
Agent Carter! I actually watched the whole series on a flight home this summer, but I never actually talked about it here.

What else is on your mind?
I'm considering making myself a bowl of polenta for breakfast. I thought it was the sort of thing only Italian grandmothers could make, but apparently you can do it on the stovetop in just a few minutes and I'm addicted. Riveting stuff, I know.
That book sounds really upsetting. :(

I still adore Veronica/Logan to this day.
Ahh, I really gotta read more Daredevil stuff, and maybe try writing it. I WANT TO. It just hasn't happened yet, idk.
I am not even remotely kinky, but the Daredevil Kink meme on DW and their AO3 collection are *full* of good writing inspiration and reading material.
Ohh, that's good to know. I've got it on my DW flist, but I haven't really peeked much; maybe I should do that.
Yeah, I gave up on reading it this week. I don't need to read about rape from a rapist's perspective...
I enjoyed "Daredevil" a lot more than I'd expected! Then I was sad because I couldn't find much in the way of Matt/Claire hurt/comfort or really anything about Karen. :(
Like all fandoms that contain male friendships, Daredevil is dominated by teh slash...

Maybe you should write us some Matt/Claire h/c. I know I would love to read it!
Oh, of course. And sometimes I can get into it, if the character dynamics are right, but the idea of Foggy & Matt as anything more than BFFs just doesn't grab me. (I assume that's the flagship.)

*sigh* I want to write, but I'm just feeling so uncreative these days. I don't have any plot bunnies.
I almost didn't watch it at all because I had started to hate Agents of SHIELD so much, and I was afraid it was going to be more of the same. I'm so glad I gave it a chance!
I feel like I need a proper Veronica Mars rewatch.

Agent Carter! ♥ I love Peggy, I love the show, and I'm stoked about the second season and what it may entail. Just, yas. Also, Hayley Atwell is a gift.
I always recommend a proper Veronica Mars rewatch! (At least of season 1. The other two seasons you can take or leave.)
Agent Carter! I did read andd eligth in all this, but oh, I had to gush about Agent Carter!
Oooh, this looks like fun!

I think you're wise to focus on writing fun gifts of choice for Yuletide. I wish I could write for VM, but I have no idea what to write about and don't think I have a good feel for the characters from a writer's standpoint. But I will be here to squee about anything you write or want to discuss! Avid fan!

Yum, polenta!

Also, Elementary is currently on Hulu in preparation for the new season, so I may actually get to watch it now! I know you've told me many times.
If you ever want to poke your toe into the waters of VMars fic writing, there's a tumblr called vmficrecs with monthly prompts. It's such a small but enthusiastic fandom - people will be really nice about whatever you write!

I've been catching up on season 3 of Elementary on Hulu myself. I think you would really like it! Joan Watson is awesome.
