avengers: natasha and hawkeye

Fandom Snowflake Meme

Day 2: In your own space, promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them.

I choose avengers_remix. Remixing is my very favorite fannish activity, so I was super depressed when the big remix challenge went away. Luckily, there are smaller remixes to take its place. If you're not familiar with the concept, remixing means you take someone else's story and change it somehow -- you could flip the POV, change the tone, alter the setting, retell it from the perspective of a minor character, expand on a teeny drabble...the possibilities are endless. Since it's not really a gift exchange, you get complete freedom to explore a new idea without feeling beholden to someone else. Sign-ups for avengers_remix last until January 10, and you need five Avengers stories to play. I know a lot of you meet that criterion, so I hope you'll join me :)

Day 1: Rec three fanworks of your own...or something. I don't have the exact verbiage at the moment. Anyway, here are some stories of mine that I like a lot even though not too many people read them.

Variation on a One-Night Stand - Snape/Narcissa
This story hits a lot of my favorite themes, like strong people showing vulnerability and non-sexual intimacy. I've always been intrigued by the idea of Snape and Narcissa together. I think Narcissa is a tremendously capable woman driven to her absolute limits by the war, and her husband just falls apart on her. Snape doesn't want to admit that he's needy, but he's also horribly lonely, and he must take a little comfort now and again.

Lucky in This Life - Sulu, Spock, McCoy
Sulu's mother was the captain of the Farragut, and he assumes that she died in the battle with the Narada. Not a lot of people read this story because it involves an OFC, but I am so proud of it. I worked on it for almost a year, and I think it shows.

Matched Set (The Clothes Make the Man Remix) - Chekov
This is the first remix I ever wrote, and probably the best. The original story was an NC-17 fic where Uhura gets Kirk to wear a uniform dress to the bridge. One little detail in the story -- that Starfleet gives everyone both male and female uniforms -- really caught my eye, and I used that to retell the story from the perspective of Chekov, who had always wanted to wear the uniform dress and never quite gotten the courage.
