spock: keep calm and carry on

Spent the afternoon watching storms roll across my facebook feed. My friend's childhood home was badly damaged, but his father is unhurt. My cousin, having been terrorized by a close brush with a tornado last night, was rushing to the storm cellar in her mother-in-law's house this afternoon. If she'd stayed home, she would have been fine; instead she watched yet another tornado touch down a few blocks away. She's okay though. I texted REDCROSS to 90999 to donate my $10. It's hard to know that's all I can do.

Anyway, distract me with a meme?

I have 124 works archived at AO3. Pick a number from 1 (the most recent) to 124 (the first thing I posted there), and I'll tell you three things I currently like about it.

(re: tornado - I was watching the same on my FB feed and Twitter.  too horrible to contemplate)

Um, apparently I have written Spock/Uhura porn? I really had no memory of that.

Stay, STXI, Spock/Uhura, NC-17
1. The porn is pretty hot.
2. I think Spock is decently in character.
3. Magical healing vagina FTW!
Nah, it's not against the spirit of the meme. You're just more organized than other people!

Okay, so I counted wrong. You get bonus comments on a random story:
Nothing Left to Lose, STXI, Spock
1. EEEEEEEEEEEE my first fanfic ever! I posted it for a comment fic fest, and then people commented on it, and then I wrote more stories, and it was the most awesome thing ever because I had no idea I could write.
2. I like that Spock freaks out and hides in the bathroom, even though he'd never admit that's what happened.
3. I like the last line: But his logic, while sound, is merely justification for an emotional decision in defense of the one other thing that he has not lost, can never lose, and will never regard as a disadvantage: his mother's love.

Alright, now here's the story you actually wanted me to talk about:
You're Gonna Make It After All, STXI, Gaila
1. I like that I wrote this story in 2009 and people still remember it.
2. I like that Gaila makes friends with Spock. They're such an odd couple, but I think they fit together because Spock knows what it's like to be the only one of your kind in Starfleet.
3. I like the summary: Two indecent exposure citations, one best friend, one amazing sex partner, one unexpected mentor, and a Starfleet-funded study of intercultural sexual norms. Sounds like a normal academic year for Gaila.
All Roads (Eventually) Lead to Home (2/3), HP, Hermione

1. I like that I had no idea what to write, so I picked random details from my trip to Thailand and started from there.
2. I like that Hermione wasn't really able to control or predict what her parents would do after she wiped their minds.
3. I like that Hermione has a spell to protect Muggle electronics from magic.
New Life and New Civilizations, STXI, Gaila/Spock

1. I like that one of the comments says Gaila and Spock feel like real aliens, not just humans with make-up on.
2. I like that Gaila was actually burning up and turning brown on her home planet.
3. I like the way that Gaila thinks ice cream is disgusting.
I pick #13! (and #100 if you're still bored and looking for distractions, because this is what I would be thinking.)

I'm very glad you're okay and that your friends are too. I'm getting scared by all these horrible natural disasters. I wish Buffy were real; she's got plenty of experience with apocalypse type stuff.
Out of Control, Avengers, Nick Fury/Maria Hill
1. I like the pairing.
2. I like this line: If we were going to go under cover, sir, I really think you should have gotten the prosthetic eye
3. Um, there is no #3. The story is too silly for that.

Course Correction, STXI, Gaila/Sulu (oh how shocking that you have selected this pairing)
1. I really like Sulu. This story kind of makes me want to marry him.
2. I liked experimenting with Gaila when she was still hard and cynical after her time in slavery
3. I liked that this story took months to write, but I stuck with it until it was done.

Oh dear, this is a silly little comment ficlet...

Different, HP, Neville/Luna
1. It was fun to figure out how the characters might have changed over time.
2. I like the idea of Neville leaving an anonymous little gift for Luna.
3. I like this line: When Neville Longbottom – Professor Neville Longbottom actually, thank you -- saw Luna Lovegood ten years after the war, she was breathtakingly different and reassuringly the same.
I'm glad your friends and family are OK. Tornadoes are terrifying.

On a much more trivial note, I can't stop myself: 69, DUDES! *ducks and runs*
And, appropriately enough, #69 is a story about Gaila meeting Sulu in a bathtub filled with condoms...

1. Actually, this story is pretty funny.
2. I like the description of Sulu's mom.
3. There is no three. It's silly comment fic.
