Thirty Days of Women: Day 10

Day Ten: Favorite female character in a scifi/supernatural show

Sharon "Athena" Agathon - Battlestar Galactica

Battlestar Galactica was often not a very good show. Inconsistent writing, bizarre plots, poor characterization...you name a problem, BSG had it. Yet, even when the show was at its worst, I kept watching because I needed to know what happened to Athena. She chose a side because she had to, and then she fought for it whole-heartedly even when it hurt her. Suffering made her a wiser person, and even when people didn't want to look up to her, they did. She was loved her husband and her child, but she was a warrior when she needed to be -- not just to protect her family, but also to do her job. Female characters who are simultaneously lovers and fighters are hard to come by, and I'm glad I stumbled across this one.
Athena's my pick for this day too, when I get here!

I agree with that BSG was a very inconsistent show (especially the last season), but when it was good it was really top notch. 33 completely blew me away, as did the Pegasus & New Caprica arcs.
I love many BSG characters, including Athena! In fact, for me that's part of the problem with the show - they created all these amazing characters and then tried to squeeze them into preconceived plots, and it just didn't work.

Anyway, yes, Athena is a great character, probably one of the few who's allowed to remain consistent throughout the show.
